King, Alverta Whaley, age 99, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Sevier County Health Care. Member of Church Street Methodist Church. Retired teacher of 43 years from Knox and Sevier County School Systems. Preceded in death by parents, Sandridge M. and Alazania Ogle Whaley; brothers, Thomas, Rufus, Austin, Clisba, and Olin Whaley; sisters, Eliza Whaley and Minda Ellison.
Survivors
Son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Barbara King of Knoxville; daughter, Imogene (Jean) Layman and husband, Burnice King; granddaughters: Kathy and husband, Keith Martin of Roanoke, Virginia; Laura and husband, Grant Duncan of Woodstock, MD; four great-grandchildren; four nephews.
Service
Funeral service Friday 8:00 PM, Berry Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. William J. Fowler and Rev. Cable Trent officiating. Family and friends will meet at Shiloh Cemetery, Pigeon Forge, 1:45 PM Saturday for a 2:00 PM graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
