He was a founding member of East Tennessee Honor Guard. He retired from the US Army with 20 years of service. Preceded in death by father, Bruner R. Powers ; sister, Wilma Jean Powers ; brother, Mark Allen Powers . Survivors include wife of 15 years, Blanca O. Powers ; daughter and son in law, Tracy and Matt McKenzie of Columbus, Ga.; son and daughter in law, John and Alejandra Powers of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Catrolina Powers of Knoxville; grandchildren, Autumn and Matthew McKenzie, and Yvonne and John Sebastian Powers ; mother and step father, Thelma and Paul Boring of Friendsville; brothers, Jack Powers and Tommy Powers both of Friendsville; sisters, Barbara Davis and Pat Murr both of Friendsville; nieces, Diana Rogers of Maryville, Debbie Breeden of Knoxville; Robin Powers and Tamara Montgomery both of Maryville; nephew, Bobby Nelson of Friendsville; several great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Monday March 5, 2001 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Chaplain Gerald Clark officiating. Family and friends will assemble for the interment at 10 a.m. Tuesday March 6, 2001 at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville.
