She was preceded in death by her father, James Roscoe Bryant; mother, Etta Mae Spurgeon Bryant; husband, Glen “Mooney” Ramsey; brothers, Oliver Bryant, Hal Bryant and sister, Carolyn Bryant Waddell. Zula is survived by her daughter, Gwen Ramsey Costner, son-in-law, Steve Costner; son Brian Ramsey, daughter-in-law, Jackie Ramsey; grandson, Curtis French and his wife Kristen. She also has special nieces, Regina Jozefek and Janice Kelley. Special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Sandy Gorrell, Amber Rowe, Vera Norton, Victoria Morgan, Smoky Mountain Home Health and special friends Kathy Kutchenburg, Anita Hamrick and Diane Raines. Zula worked for the United States Government War Department on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge and resided there from 1939-1944. She returned to Cocke County and married Glen “Mooney” Ramsey in 1948. During the years of depressed economy following the war she was one of few women brave enough to run moonshine. She made the weekly run from the mountains of Cosby to Knoxville, TN with her husband Mooney on many occasions. Their epic adventures were featured in Alex Gabbard’s book Return to Thunder Road. Zula traveled the world with her daughter Gwen, not only for pleasure but also buying unique items for her daughters store Trinkets and Treasures. She loved to read and watch the birds that she fed daily at her home. She loved all animals especially her cat BamBam. Zula was a devoted mother and an exceptional mother-in-law.
