Helen Gribble, age 86 of Newport went to be with Jesus Friday, October 26, 2012 at her home with her family by her side. She was a faithful member of Northport Baptist Church and in her later years a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She retired from America Enka after 20 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, S. A. Gribble; parents John and Rhoda Phillips; brothers Charlie, C.L., John and Hubert Phillips; and sister, Annie Henderson. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws, Roger and Charlene Gribble of Newport and Curt and Ronda Gribble of Newport; daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Ted Sluder of Newport; sister Martha France of Newport; grandchildren Tracey Gribble and Angela and Richard Hedlund; great grandchildren Tori and Lexi Hedlund and Dawson Gribble; special care-givers, Vickie Fowler, Bessye Brown, Cheryl Hartsell, Tammy Francis and Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice Family. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Rutherford officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 29, 2012 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday prior to funeral service at Manes Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Charles Lovell, A.J. Fowler, Gary Watts, Dale Hartsell, Jim Denton and Marshall Wright. Horary pallbearers will be, Jerry Brown, Ronnie Phillips, Carl Ball, Jr., Calvin Martin, Reid Bailey and Jabo Francis. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc., P.O. Box 10088, Knoxville, TN 37939-9910.
