CARMON, JAMES SHIELDS, JR. - age 82, of Knoxville, died 3:20 a.m. Sunday, April 19, 1998, at NHC Healthcare of Knoxville. He was a member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Christian Service Sunday School and the Senior XYZ Club. Member of the Charles McKinney Lodge #433, Scottish Rite Freemasonary and Kerbela Temple of Knoxville. An Army Veteran of World War II. He was employed 37 years at Charlie's Pie Shop and later worked as a wholesale food broker before retiring at age 72. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Shields, Sr. and Eva L. Carmon; sisters, Doris Collins, Rebecca Wells, Mildred Ailor and Margaret Cate. Survivors: wife of 59 years, Sara M. Carmon; son, James F. Carmon; son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Elizabeth Carmon of Cleveland, Tenn.; grandchildren, Craig Carmon of Nashville, Tenn., Jeffrey Carmon of Owensboro, Ky., Brett Carmon and Chad Reynolds of Cleveland, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Hayden Carmon; sisters, Gladys Stallsworth of Knoxville, Eva Grim of Sevierville, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews and dear family friends. Masonic memorial service by Charles H. McKinney Lodge #433 F.& A.M. 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel, followed by funeral service with Rev. E.A. Eldridge and Rev. James A. Dougherty officiating. Family and friends will meet Wednesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for an 11 a.m. interment service. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to the Washington Pike United Methodist Church, 2241 Washington Pk, Knoxville, TN 37917. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
