Oscar Brown, age 79, of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2002.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bertha Brown; step-mother, Florie Brown; and brother, Enoch Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Cloyas Brown, of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Linda Brown, of Parrottsville; daughters and sons-in-law: Sharon and Carroll Ambrose, of Newport; Tamra and Ricky Suggs, of Newport; sister and brother-in-law, Unavea and Emory O'Dell, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; grandchildren: Kristin and Josh Brown, Brittany Ambrose, Haley and Alex Suggs.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2002 at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Ward and Rev. Robert Walker officiating, with burial in Union Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Walker, Glen Bradley, David Brooks, Bobby Barger, Bobby Chambers, and Tim Rader; honorary pallbearers Kevin Martin, Richard O'Dell, Michael Carter, and Bud Brown.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Manes Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
