(June 3, 1947 - August 2, 2012) Rev. Ernest Eugene Sawyer age 65 of Del Rio went to be with the Lord on Thursday August 2, 2012. He was the Pastor of Fugate Baptist Church for 29 years, loved his ministry and ministered until his health would not allow him to. He loved gardening, playing golf, his family and his church. He was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Dorothy Sawyer, and his grandson Jared Clay Helton. He is survived by his wife Gail Sawyer of Del Rio, daughter Melanie Jane Helton of Del Rio, son Benjamin Ernest Sawyer of Del Rio, brothers Paul (Reba) Sawyer of Hot Springs, NC, Bobby (Peggy) Sawyer of Albany Ky., sister Shirley (Charles ) Henry of Parrottsville, grandchildren Jacob Helton, Hannah Sawyer, Ethan Sawyer, Victor Helton, sister in law Juanita (Esten) Willis of Del Rio, mother in law Eva Wilds of Newport, also a host of nieces , nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Sunday at Fugate Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Murr and Dr. James Kilgore officiating with burial in the Fugate Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Saturday August 4, 2012 at Manes Funeral Home. The body will lie-in-state from 9:45-11:00 am.
