Fred Green , age 78, of Newport, passed away Friday evening at the Mariner Healthcare Center following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Green was a veteran of World War II, US Army, and was of the Baptist faith. He was retired after 32 years of service from Stokely-Van Camp.
Mr. Green was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield and Dona Smith Green ; wife, Ruby Green ; brothers, Flint and Lewis Green ; and sisters, Nola Stover and Lena Valentine.
Mr. Green is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred C. Green and wife, Karen, of Seymour, Tennessee, and Lawrence E. Green and wife, Glinda, of Newport; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sara S. Crumbley, Ethel Green , Jo Ann Williams and husband, Randy, and Donna Marie Hance and husband, Gary, all of Newport; one brother and sister-in-law, Elmer Green and wife, Frankie, of Newport; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Fred Green were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Brown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Sawyers officiating. Interment followed in the Union Cemetery. Military Graveside honors were performed by the DAV Post #102. Pallbearers were Shannon Green , Justin Green , Jason Williams, Eugene Green , Rodney Williams and James Stuart. Daniel Costner served as an honorary pallbearer.
The family received friends Sunday evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
