U.S. Veteran Mr. Steve C. ‘Buck’ Lawson, age 91, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Newport, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016. He was born to the late Anderson and Willa Mae Lawson on June 24, 1924, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Steve served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired as a structural steel worker (iron worker local 290) after 60 years of employment. Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tending to his garden. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Elsie E. Lawson, brothers Frank L., Conley Anderson, Jr., and Billy E. Lawson, and sister Ella Violet Ogreta Lawson. Steve is survived by his son Rick Lawson, grandchildren Rick (Laurie) Lawson, Catie (Rod) Fryman, Barry (Autumn) Lawson, Sarah (Nicholas) Tozier, and Andy Lawson; ten great-grandchildren; brother Robert T. Lawson and sister Joyce Conway, both of Newport; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor James Suggs officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123. Condolences and other remembrances may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com.
