William Walton Ivey, age 88, of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Parkwest Medical Center.
He was born January 18, 1924 in Sevier County, TN, the son of John W. and Lurla Derrick Ivey.
Mr. Ivey was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army and he attained five major battle stars during his service. He retired from Union Carbide Corp at the Y-12 plant where he was a welding inspector.
Mr. Ivey was a member of the Oliver Springs United Methodist Church. He was a 50+ year Mason and a member of the Omega Lodge #536 of Oliver Springs. He enjoyed going to the flea market and playing his banjo and guitar with fellow musicians.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nelle Coleman Ivey; daughter, Dwana Pamela Ivey; brother, Norvell Ivey and sister, Ila Bea Layman.
He is survived by his son, Steve Ivey and wife Pamelia and daughter, Sherry Ivey, all of Oak Ridge and 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 4, 2012 from 11:00 – 11:30am at the Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church in Dandridge. A Masonic Service will begin at 11:30am led by members of the Omega Lodge #536 of Oliver Springs. The funeral will follow with Rev. John Wilson officiating with the burial in the church cemetery. Following the interment, the family will receive friends in the church's reception hall. The family asks that memorials be made to Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, 2416 Chestnut Hill Church Road, Dandridge, TN 37725. Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge, is handling the services.
