Kathleen I. "Kay" Schroeder , 83, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 2244 White St., died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at the care center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. John C. Friedell, the Rev. Ronald G. Friedell and the Rev. Mark R. Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road.
Mrs. Schroeder taught school in the one-room school houses of Dubuque County from 1952 to 1962, and the fourth grade at Holy Ghost Catholic School in Dubuque from 1962 to 1982, when she retired.
She was born on March 21, 1922, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, daughter of Earl and Daisy (Roe) Brahm . She married John F. "Fran" Schroeder ; he preceded her in death on March 13, 1968.
She was raised in North Buena Vista, and graduated from grade school there and from high school in Guttenberg, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1973 at the age of 51.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and its Rosary Society.
She was an avid sports fan and followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed working her morning crossword puzzles, crocheting and a good game of euchre.
May she finally rest in peace.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen M. Schroeder , of Hastings, Neb.; a son, Stanley F. (Sybil) Schroeder , of Dubuque; three grandsons, Richard (Sharon) Schroeder , of Leesville, La., David (Carleen) Schroeder , of Dubuque, and Jeffery S. Schroeder , of Oxnard, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren, Mark, Elizabeth, Brock, Lindsey, Katherin, Lauren, Mary Beth and Rylee; a great-great-grandchild, DeVin; two sisters, Irene (Albert) Klein, of Balltown, Iowa, and Doris Friedman, of Dubuque; and a brother, Earl (Velma) Brahm , of Dubuque.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Janet; two brothers, Marion and Clyde Van Horne; and a sister, Evelyn Goodman.
Memorials may be given to Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque.
The family would like to thank the staff at Stonehill and Hospice for all the wonderful loving care they gave to Kay during a most difficult time.
