Edith Louise Johnson Ownby , 76, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, in a local hospital. She was formerly employed with Central Service, M. C. Headrick Supermarket and retired as a seamstress from Cleveland Chair Company. She was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church where she served as pianist for a number of years. She was also the former pianist at Waterville Baptist Church and with the North Cleveland Baptist Quartet. She was preceded in death by her mother, Zona Hayes Johnson and two brothers: Harold Eugene Johnson and William "Bill" Johnson. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Melvin Ownby ; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Dave Long; one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Bernice Ownby , all of Cleveland; father, August Johnson of Cleveland; two granddaughters: Natalie Ownby and Tiffany Ownby , both of Cleveland; one brother, Ted Johnson; three sisters: Doris Ownby , Sylvia Oberon Johnson and Reta Goodwin, all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Carden officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Mervin Ownby , Brad Montgomery, Blake Morris, Jonathan Ownby , Justin Ownby and Eric Swafford serving as pallbearers.
