Mary Ruth Gregg, age 70, of Newport, passed away, Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital after a lingering illness. She was a faithful member of Greggs Chapel Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jethro and Mary Phillips Lindsey; brothers, Robie, Rufus, Gerald Lindsey and Ray Phillips; sisters, Roxie, Reva Dean, Emma Lou, Geraldine and Sara Lindsey; sisters-in-law, Mattie and Essie Mae Lindsey. She is survived by her husband, Fred Gregg; sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Susie Gregg; Freddie and Sharrie Gregg; daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Danny Allen; daughter, Beth Gregg; stepmother, Callie Shelton, loving sisters, Rhoda Mathis all of Newport; and Ruby Baxter of Gastonia, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Lois Lindsey of Dallas, NC; brothers, Ruble Lindsey of Cosby, Randall Lindsey of Newport, Ronnie Lindsey of Charlotte, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta and Tommy Moore of Newport, Barbara and Ron Baker of Dandridge, TN; sister-in-law, Betty Phillips of Maxton, NC; eleven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; also many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gary Henderson and Rev. Franklin Wine officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
