Trula Ruth King Whaley , age 87, or "Nan", as her grandchildren fondly called her, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, March 24, 1999, with her family at her side.
Trula was born on June 28, 1911, in Sevierville, TN, to Jerry and Julia King. it was there, in the Great Smokey Mountains, that she received her education including a Business School Degree.
On May 21, 1934, she married Carl Raymond Whaley in Sevierville, TN. In the early 1940s, they came to the Wenatchee Valley and first resided in Leavenworth as Carl took a job with Peshastin Lumber & Box, Inc. They then built a home in Peshastin. A daughter was born in 1949 and Trula , Carl, and Mary Louise made a home together for the next 10 years until Carl's death in April of 1959.
Trula was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother besides being a true friend to many. She was actively involved in her community and especially her church. She was a former member of Leavenworth Methodist Church, Peshastin United Church of Christ, and currently a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wenatchee. She was a lifetime member of the ABC Club, former member of Children's Home Society, Rebekah's, Golden K Kiwanis and had served as a volunteer with the Cashmere Museum.
In 1990, Trula moved to Wenatchee to be closer to her family and spent the past two years living with her daughter and son-in-law.
Trula was a lady full of life and love. She demonstrated that daily with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Carl (1959), and by her bothers, Homer, Raymond, Sanders, Bruce and John.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilou and Bob Hughes of Wenatchee; by her granddaughter and husband, Angela and David Stedman; by her grandson and wife, Chris and Teresa Davis; by her grandson and wife, Jeff and Candace Hughes; by her three great-grandchildren, Derek Stedman, Kamryn Davis and Jerrod Hughes; by her sister and husband, Anah and Bill Stinnett of Pigeon Forge, TN; by her sister Louise Haynes of Sevierville, TN; by her sister-in-law, June Whaley of Bakersfield, CA; and by several extended family members and friends.
Mom, we love you and you'll always be in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held for Trula on Monday, March 29, 1999 at 1 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel of Jones & Jones Funeral Home. Concluding services and interment will follow at the Peshastin Cemetery. Reverend Kel Groseclose will officiate the services.
If desired, memorials may be made in her name to the charity of one's choice and/or to the Wenatchee First United Methodist Church.
