Newman, James C. “J.C.” age 88 of Maryville passed away peacefully Saturday August 31st at Blount Memorial Hospital.
A proud World War II Veteran, he served in the Army Company A, 379th infantry, 95th division. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, the combat infantry badge and the Purple Heart.
In 2011 he was also awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal, France’s highest honor for his participation in the liberation of France and Europe. He was a member, former deacon and Sunday school director of Forest Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Newman, parents James H. and Annie Newman, sisters Wilma Dean White and Eva Sue Carroll.
He is survived by his wife of fifty eight years Wilva Newman, daughter and son in law Debbie and Ron Teffeteller, daughter Mary Newman, daughter in law Sonya Newman. Grandchildren, Lori Teffeteller, Kelly Teffeteller, Josh Newman and wife Angela, Jessica Long and husband Ronnie, Jordan Newman. Great Grand Daughter, Alivia Newman, brother Dwayne Newman. A host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Macht and Rev. Gary Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 Tuesday at the funeral home. The interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to: Forest Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1850 Forest Hill Road, Maryville TN 37803.
