No. 48 Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) organization, headquartered in the Caney Branch community of Greene County. The GAR membership was composed of Union Army veterans. According to Internet sources, a similar group was based in Newport, but no records of their organization have been found. Seated from left are Isaac Rader, Andrew Neas, Adam Neas, Robert Browning, Calvin Ottinger, and Adam Ottinger. Calvin Ottinger was a son of Peter and Anna (Maloy) Ottinger and was one of two people instrumental in the establishment of O & S (Ottinger & Shelton) Chapel United Methodist Church.
