John Milburn Spurgeon, age 85, of Parrottsville, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents W. H. Spurgeon and Flora Jenkins Spurgeon of Cosby, two sisters Sarah Spurgeon of Cosby and Ruth Cogburn of Knoxville, two brothers William "Bill" Spurgeon of California and Charles Spurgeon of Cosby, and a nephew Tim Cogburn of Knoxville.
He is survived by his son Randall Carl Spurgeon and wife Pat of Cosby; two grandchildren Stacey Spurgeon Self and Stephanie Nicole Spurgeon, both of Dandridge; four great-grandchildren Allison and Andrew Self of Dandridge, Chloe Rustin and Dawson Gribble of Jefferson City; a nephew Michael K. Cogburn; cousins David Bryant and wife Melba of Newport, June King, Betty Smith and husband Leon of Parrottsville, Beatrice Brown, Shelby Arrowood, and Trula Renner, all of Cocke County.
He served four years in the Army Corps of Engineers and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He was employed two years with the Tennessee Division of Forestry and 18 years with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, from which he retired.
John was laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
