Bernard G. Bud Hilke , 82, of La Crosse died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Bethany- Riverside Nursing Facility. He was born in La Crosse on April 26, 1921, to Carl and Emma (Meinertz) Hilke . Bud married Louise Y. Richeson in La Crosse on April 15, 1950. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater.
He was a member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52, La Crosse. He had worked as purchasing agent for the city of La Crosse for more than 32 years and retired in 1982. Bud enjoyed many interests including playing cards, golf and camping. He was an avid Frank Sinatra fan and his love of music included jazz and Dixieland. Above all else, Bud was a family man. There was nothing he wouldnt do for his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Louise; he is survived by two daughters, Mary (John) McKinley of Mound, Minn., and Sheila (William D. Oldenburg) Hilke of La Crosse; his son, Christopher Hilke of La Crosse; and three grandchildren, Cassie Hilke , Laura Oldenburg and Christopher Walby.
Two sisters and five brothers preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Burial, with military honors by American Legion Post 52, will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 6:30 p.m. The family requests memorials be directed to the Franciscan Skemp Hospice Program.
