Sara Marie Risk of New Britain died unexpectedly on Friday. She was 33.
Born in Lafayette, Ind., she earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Indiana University and a master of fine arts from Queens College. She lived the last six years in New Britain, working as an artist and teaching at Central Connecticut State University and the University of New Haven. She had a solo exhibition at the New Britain Museum of Art and a two-person exhibition with her husband at the Bowery Gallery in New York.
She is survived by her husband, Sean Gallagher; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Risk of Boulder, Colo., and Amy Susan Risk of Chicago; her father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Beverly Gallagher of Indiana; a grandmother, Shirley J. Tufteland of Nevada; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will be private. New Britain Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
