MANES , MR. NEWMAN C. - age 89, of South Knoxville, passed away Friday, November 23, 2001. He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church, and was retired from Dempster Bros. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cordia Canter Manes ; his wife of 53 years, Pauline Julian Manes ; sisters, Mrs. Nellie Hodges, Mrs. Lena Ellis, and Mrs. Mable Galyon; brothers, Walter, Wade, Fuller, Lee, Emory, and George Manes . Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Carol Manes of Maryville; daughter, Betty Widener of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Dennis Mason of Knoxville; grandchildren, Daniel Widener, Debbie Widener, Shelley Dane, Janice Dane, Ginger Heldreth, Angela Daugherty, and Tim Fortune; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Cody, and Preston. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 26, 2001, from 6-8 p.m. at Highland South Funeral Home with a funeral service to be conducted at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Bobby Tucker officiating. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 27, 2001, at 11 a.m. in Highland South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a hospice of choice, or to your favorite charity. Highland South Funeral Home has arrangements, 573-7300.
