Kenneth Blaine Marine, Sr., 94, passed away Saturday, November 24 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Born January 3, 1918 in Razar, TN, he attended grammar school in Happy Valley and graduated from Lanier High School. He worked for ALCOA and joined the National Guard until called to active duty, seeing combat in Europe during WW II. Kenneth received a B.S. from ETSC and M.S. from UT. He taught Industrial Arts and Woodworking at Berry School in Rome, GA, Sheldon Jackson in Sitka, Alaska and Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, W.V. before returning to East Tennessee. He was teaching at Gibbs in Knox County when he was recruited to set up the Industrial Arts program at Everett High School. He continued at Everett moving to Heritage where he taught until retirement. He enjoyed a busy retirement continuing his woodworking, building dulcimers, small furniture items and wooden toys at Christmas. He enjoyed exhibiting in craft fairs and his dulcimers found dozens of homes all over the US. He was a long time member of New Providence Presbyterian Church.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Hope DeButy Marine and by sister, Margie Wilson. He is survived by one son; Kenneth Blaine, Jr. and daughter-in–law, Sandra Marine, and by brothers Mahlon Marine, and Harold Marine and sisters Olief Butcher and Elaine Roberts.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in the Smith chapel with Rev. Beecher Whitehead officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Boone Cemetery in Happy Valley for the interment. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral & cremation Service, Maryville, 983-1000
