Mary O. Henderson Gaddy died on Friday, February 24, 2012, at South Jersey Healthcare Elmer Hospital following a year of declining health. She went home to be with her Savior, Jesus.
The wife of James J. Gaddy, she was born in Grassy Fork, TN on March 4, 1939, and was the daughter of the late William DeMetis Henderson and Lanie Smith Henderson. Mary and James recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on February 8, 2012. She and her husband have lived at their present address in Bridgeton (Hopewell Township) NJ for 35 years.
Mary's family moved to New Jersey in the middle of the 1940's where she attended grammar school in Seabrook, NJ. She graduated June 10, 1955 from 8th grade and attended Bridgeton High School.
Mrs. Gaddy had been employed with Wheaton Tubing Company in Millville, NJ and also at Seabrook Farms, in Seabrook, NJ. She was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and worked in the Awana Program.
Mary enjoyed witnessing to people and was very active in church work. She enjoyed going to TN and SC to see her sisters and other family. Mary also enjoyed her grandchildren and getting together with her brother and sisters. She was very family oriented and reached out with kindness to everyone she knew. She also enjoyed visiting her birthplace whenever she went south.
Besides her husband she is survived by a son, James S. Gaddy and his wife Kristen (Sprouse) of Quinton, NJ; three grandchildren, Alyssa N. Gaddy, Jessica L. Gaddy, and James C. Gaddy; two brothers, Rondy Ray Henderson (Donna) of Hopewell Township (Bridgeton), NJ and William D. Henderson, Jr. (Erma) of Lexington, NC; four sisters, Annie Lucille Langley (Harry) of Vineland, NJ, Geraldean Marie Cogdill (Don) of Marietta, SC, Lola Ann Ellison (Tim) of Seabrook, NJ and Donna Lou Langley (Vincent) of Newfield, NJ and an aunt, Callie Black of Grassy Fork. She was preceded in death by a sister; Mymie Jo Henderson Raines McElyea (Charles) of Bristol, TN; her step-mother, Hilda Wine Henderson; her grandparents, Annie Jane Ball Henderson and Thomas "Tom" Benjamin Henderson, and Laurie and Lewis Smith of Grassy Fork, TN.
Services were conducted by Rev. Wimberly and Rev. Moore at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Millville, NJ on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Her favorite song was sung in her honor, "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven withYyou". A special solo was sung by Lisa Taylor. Nancy Messick, her close friend wrote and recited a poem about her. Her granddaughters, Alyssa and Jessica, gave their testimony and their special memories of times with their grandmom. Mrs. Dodge, her nurse who took care of her, gave testimony that she inspired her so much she was going to write a book and call it "Reaching Out". Burial took place at East View Cemetery in Salem, NJ. Pallbearers were Rondy Ray Henderson, Jr., Kevin B. Henderson, Greg S. Henderson, Alvin Wilson, Larry Wilson, Tom Stidham, John Stidham, John Raines, and Anthony Johnson. An honorary pallbearer was Les Smith.
Funeral Services and arrangements were under the direction of the Padgett Funeral Home, Upper Deerfield Township NJ.
