NEWPORT, Tenn. -- Mervin O. Barton , 74, of 305 White Oak St., formerly of Elizabethtown, N.C., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in his home.
Mr. Barton was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a brick mason. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher.
The funeral will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in Manes Funeral Home chapel in Newport by the Rev. Benjamin Lewis. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Dandridge.
Mr. Barton is survived by his wife, Essie H. Barton of the home; a son, Charles A. Barton of Fayetteville, N.C.; a stepson, Michael Hannon of Newport; two stepdaughters, Renea Hannon of Newport and Helaine Gill of Atlanta; a brother, Wallace Barton of Fayetteville; six stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
