U.S. Veteran Rev. Homer G. Burns, age 94, of Townsend, went home to be with Jesus Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Butterfly Gap Baptist Church, and was a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, and will be sadly missed by many. He pastored for 64 years, his churches included, Happy Hollow, Cades Cove Missionary, Ridgeview Missionary, Light Pink, Gethsemane, and Butterfly Gap. He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from Pavco Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Mae Bryant Burns; parents, Alexander and Nancy Headrick Burns; brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Ann Burns; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma and Fred Buchanan, Edna and Ruben Buchanan; and son-in-law, Ray H. Ogle. He is survived by his daughter, Bertha Ogle; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Alvin Roberts; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Delite Burns, Bill and Ann Burns, Rev. Donald and Lisa Burns, and Rev. Robert and Tina Burns; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Johnnie and Leon Sparks; brother-in-law, Avery Lail; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Townsend Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders, or Butterfly Gap Youth Group, In care of Nancy Roberts, 3128 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Miller Funeral Home, Magnolia Chapel, with Mr. Jeff Burns, Rev. Larry Teaster, and Rev. Robert Burns officiating. The interment service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Quinton Barbra and Rev. Donald Burns officiating.
