Crosby Lawrence Drew, Jr.
Age 84 of Seymour, Tennessee
Surrounded by his loving wife and children at his bedside, God put His loving arms around him and whispered “It’s time,” and took him home to live with Him on Friday, March 6, 2009. He is at peace and we know that he is with his heavenly Father until we see him again face to face. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tessie Drew Hines and Crosby Lawrence Drew Sr.; his two brothers, John Drew and Ralph Drew, sister, Betty Kirk, and son-in-law, Mike Hughes. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Mattie Jean Ownby Drew, his daughters Brenda Sweat, Susan Hughes, Debbie and husband Cherokee Hembree, his sons Butch and wife Kathy Drew, Bill and wife Darlene Drew, and David Drew. He loved and was devoted to his precious grandchildren: Robby and wife Mandi Sweat, Apryl Sweat, Tessey and husband Fred Bell, Timmy Drew, Mikey and wife Amy Hughes, Candice and Shane Drew, Megan and Amy Drew, and Chad Jessie. He adored his great grand-children: Emma Sweat, Caroline and Olivia Bell, Soleil Drew, and Macey and Brady Hughes; he loved them very much. He will always be cherished by his brother, Frank Drew, and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews for his love, his generosity, his kindness and his many stories that he loved to share among family and friends. He was a kind person with a gentle heart who served his country well. After his service commitment with the military in WWII and the Korean War, he continued serving and giving of himself to the City of Knoxville as a fire fighter until his retirement in August of 1987. He was loved by people everywhere he went. He will be missed so much by his loving family and many friends.
The family would like to express their appreciation and sincere gratitude to the Hospice staff, especially Estelle and April and the Hospice Chaplain Phil Groos. Many thanks also to the men who brought his breath of life weekly.
Military honors will be presented by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8th from 6 to 8pm at Highland Memorial with funeral services to follow at 8pm in the Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 9th at 1pm. Family and friends should meet at the funeral home at 12:45pm.
