Wilma Ownby Davis, left her life on Earth to begin spending Eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday August 5, at 5:00 in the afternoon.
Wilma was born on July 9, 1913, in Greenbriar, TN.,in one of the original homes in the community, before it became a part of the Great Smokey Mountains. She and her family also lived in Elkmont and Pigeon Forge before they moved to Seymour. She graduated high school from Smokey Mountain Academy in 1932.
Wilma was saved on October 7, 1935 at Euclid Ave Baptist Church where she had membership until joining Sevier Heights Baptist Church on September 12, 1940. She loved her church and church family and served it faithfully for 69 years.
She was a Past Matron of Acacia-May Chapter #362 Order of the Eastern Star. She also served in other positions in the chapter and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of the 64 club.
One of her great pleasures was the planting and taking care of flowers and plants in her house, on the porches and in the yard. They were beautiful and also gave pleasure to others. Another great passion was watching the Lady Vols basketball games, calling every player by name, and she was quick to give her insight and analysis, win or lose.
Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harry C. Davis, parents Rev. Fred and Orlena Ownby, sister, Margie Rhodes, and grandson, Bryan Davis Holcomb.
She is survived by her son Edgar and wife Tommie, daughters Gerra Lynn Mary and husband Ben: Emily Holcomb and husband Deal. Grandsons, Greg Mary and wife Janie, Michael Mary and wife Tanya, Guy Davis and wife Ginger, and Kent Holcomb. Grandaughters, Angela Mary-Doyle and husband Patrick, and Jennifer Davis.
Also,survived by great-grandchildren Jonathan Mary and wife Kristen ,Jordan & fiance Justin Niethammer, Meaghan and Ryann Doyle, Bailey, Morgan and Benjamin Mary, Hayden Grace, Cameron and Reece Davis.
Brothers, Hubert Ownby and wife Polly•, Ralph Ownby and wife Alice, and sisters Bobbie Underwood and Ada Wolfenbarger of Corryton. Other sisters are Naomi Farmer and husband Bert, Mattie Drew of Seymour and Edith Reed of Fayetteville,GA.
Many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sevier Heights Baptist Church Building Fund “The Story Continues”, 3232 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920.
The family will receive friends 2-3:45 PM Sunday at Sevier Heights Baptist Church with funeral service to follow at 4 PM. Dr. Hollie Miller and Rev. David Webster officiating.
