U.S. Veteran Michael Lynn Jones, age 50, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012, after a battler with cancer. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. He was the son of the late Nesbitt Jones Sr. and Virginia Virl Davis Jones. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Green Jones and Minnie Turner Jones, Sherman R. Davis and Lelia Lorene Phillips Davis; nephew, Richie Shaver; uncles, Roy, Curtis, Floyd and Junior Jones and Thomas Davis; aunts, Polly Green and Ellen McLeMore. He is survived by his wife, Karen Jones; daughters, Melissa Maxwell, Janice Shropshire; son, Michael Ledford; grandchildren, Megan Miller, Maddy and Emily Shropshire, Dustin James and Chance Shropshire; brother, Nesbitt Jones, Jr., of Johnson City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane Shaver of Jefferson City and Jeff Shaver of Newport, Roni Hill of Morristown, Debrah and George Jones of Morristown, Sharon and Jeff Cantor of Orlando, FL; nephews, Dwayne Shaver of Newport and Cassidy Jones of Dandridge; niece Brittany Jones of Cookeville, TN; and other family and friends. He is also survived by his uncles, David and Ed Jones, Benny and Wendell Davis; aunts, Zotie Hartsell, Roxie Gilland, Lee Ester Crumbley, Cletus Frye and Janet Hunt. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday, January 27, 2012, at Manes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, January 28, 2012 in Manes Funeral Home West Chapel, with Rev. Rick Clevenger and Rev. Jon Walton officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery with military honors.
