Minnie Hartsell walked towards me with a “hello” at the recent St. Jude fundraiser at the Edwina Community Center. I had not seen her and husband Stanley Hartsell in many years. They are old friends of the Plain Talk. Stanley is 81 and the couple celebrates their 58th wedding anniversary on Sept. 17 at their Bat Harbor home. High Oaks Coon Club sponsors the annual fundraiser and Bob Chesteen Memorial Hunt.

Stanley Hartsell, age 87, of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 25, 2014, after battling cancer for several months. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Ball; parents, Claude and Lou Hartsell; great-granddaughter, Addalyn Hartsell; sister, Ruth Brown; brother, Fred Hartsell; nieces, Frieda Hartsell and Charolett Sutton; brothers-in-law, David, Cline and Richard Stokely; sisters-in-law Hatti (Bobby) Sutton; and Alene (Lattie) Tucker. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Minnie Stokely Hartsell; special son-in-law, Rev. Robert Ball; son, Stanley Lynn Hartsell; grandchildren, Jody and Melissa Ball, Anthony and Shelly Ball, Whitney, Tiffany, Timothy and Taylor Hartsell; great-grandchildren, Carrie and Sharon Moore, Bryson Ball, Morgan, Cassie and Jordan Ball, Bentleigh Grooms, Rylan Parton, and Gracelyn Hartsell; great-great-grandson, Michael Moore; sisters-in-law, Lorene Hartsell, Lucille and Maudie Stokely; and several nieces, nephews, along with many special friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Saturday, December 27, 2014 with funeral services following at 7:00 pm with Rev. Robert Ball, Rev. Johnny Hayes and Rev. Billy Ball officiating. Burial will be held 1:00 pm, Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Inman Cemetery. Family and friends may sign the guest register on line at: www.manesfuneralhome.com.
