James Eugene "Cowboy" Muncy , 61, of Cookeville, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Muncy was a former Oak Ridge resident and was retired from Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, where he worked as a maintenance engineer.
He was born in Corbin, Ky., on May 28, 1938.
Mr. Muncy served with the National Guard for six years. He was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church of New River, a member of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756 in Oak Ridge and a member of the Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club.
His hobbies were going to flea markets and operating ham radios.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Phillips Muncy ; his father, Grover Earl Muncy and his wife, Jewell, of Knoxville; his son, Mark Anthony Muncy of Clinton; his daughters, Connie Muncy of Oak Ridge and Danean Ann Coffman of Ten Mile; his brothers, Thomas Muncy and his wife, Sharon, of Oak Ridge, Earl Muncy and his wife, Judi, of Knoxville and Dean Muncy and his wife, Kathy, of Chattanooga; his stepbrother, Jimmy Morgan and his wife, Barbara, of Knoxville; and by stepsister, Sheri Dee Langille and her husband, Wayne, of Knoxville.
Mr. Muncy is also survived by six grandchildren, Bradley Ridenour of LaFollette, Mitchell Muncy and Nikki Muncy , both of Oak Ridge, and Joseph Hibbert, Krista Hibbert and Nathaniel Hibbert, all of Ten Mile; five stepchildren, Ricky Phillips and his wife, Sherri, Gary Phillips and his wife, Barbara, Bruce Phillips, Earl Phillips and his wife, Teresa, and Cindy Braden and her husband, Freddie; and by 10 step-grandchildren.
His mother, Mildred Collier Muncy Morgan, died earlier, and a granddaughter, Laura Lee Muncy , died in August 1989.
A Masonic service will be held at 8 tonight, April 28, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 8:15 p.m. with the Rev. Lee Phillips and the Rev. Don Daugherty officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.
