He was of the Baptist Faith and an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a recipient of a bronze star. He received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Tennessee where he played Volleyball with the National Championship title team. He worked for the Veterans Administration Clinic, The Painters Union Local 437 and for the last 28 years he worked for the Board of Probation and Parole. He was a member of the South Knoxville Masonic Lodge # 769. Michael was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billie A. Covington and Hugh Lawson Stringfield . Survived by his loving wife, Sherry Stringfield ; daughter and son-in-law, Susannah and Tyson Bell; son, Andrew Stringfield ; step-daughters, Rachael and Sierra Russell; grandchildren, Valen Bell and NaVien Russell; step-dad, Lester L. Covington; sister and brothers-in-law, Sandi and Jim Harrison and Dewayne Webster; mother and father-in-law, Charlotte and Roger Webster; special aunt, Barbara Christman; aunt, Clara Mae Keeling; uncle, Charles Stringfield ; nephews, Donny, James and Matthew; four great-nieces and nephews; special friend, John Harwell. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Weaver's Chapel with the service to follow at 7:00 pm. Reverends Larry Teaster and Toby Webster officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:15 am Friday at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Hwy. for an 11:30 am interment.
