U.S. Veteran Burnett Davis, age 93, of Newport, passed away, Wednesday, November 29. 2006, at Newport Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 8, 1913 in Grassy Fork to Creed and Katy Mooneyham Davis, who have preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Black Davis; sons, Bobby Don Davis and William Edward Davis; one grandson, Bobby Don Davis, Jr.; one sister, Bertha Davis Byrd and son-in-law, Kirk M. Jenkins. He is survived by his sons and their wives, Alvin and Vicky of Pennsylvania, Jerrell and Bobbie of Dandridge, Terry and Bonnie of Newport, and Pat of Parrottsville; one daughter, Joan Davis Jenkins of Alpharetta, Georgia. Surviving grandchildren are Rhonda Davis Colby, Karen Davis Graham, Donna Davis Lamb, Jason Davis, Norma Davis Giles, Sallie Davis Lovell, Bailey Sue Davis, Amanda Davis-Toby Freshour and Caprice Black all of Newport, Mary Hembree of Cosby, Brian and Scott Davis of North Carolina, Maggie Davis of Pensylvania, Lisa Davis Hukill of Texas, Chuck M. Jenkins of Alaska, Lori Jenkins of Alpharetta, Georgia. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren, sisters, Amanda Davis Williams of New Jersey and Ida Davis Ford of Grassy Fork; special friend and fishing buddy Buzz Brooks; three nieces and three nephews. He served in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He retired from American Enka. He loved camping and was an avid trout fisherman and loved to fish the waters of Citico and Tellico. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, December 1, 2006 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Services will follow at 8:00 pm, with Rev. Alvin Watts officiating. Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, December 2, 2006 in Laws-Green Cemetery in Grassy Fork. We ask that family and friends meet at the cemetery for the burial. Manes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
