UNDERWOOD, ROBERT B. - age 81, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011. He was born on September 28, 1930. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. He graduated with a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Tennessee. He served in active duty with the U.S.A.F. from 1951 to 1953. He retired from Knoxville City Schools after teaching at South and Fulton High Schools. He served as principal of Young High School and South Middle School. Preceded in death by parents, Burl and Emma Underwood. Survived by wife, Joyce D. Underwood; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Brian Emmett; grandchildren, Molly and Bobby Emmett of Raleigh, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas R. and Cindy Underwood. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Greenwood Cemetery for graveside services at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Don Olive officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Friends of the Smokies, P.O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN 37764; Ijams Nature Center, 2915 Island Home Ave, Knoxville, TN 37920; or a charity of your choice .
