HILL , DR. HOWARD E. - age 89, of Maryville, died Saturday, February 23rd 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rockville CT on December 4, 1912, the son of Hartwell J. and Grace E. (Harrington) Hill . He attended the University of Pa and received his doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Auburn University, Auburn AL in 1937.Dr. Hill was employed by the US Department of Agriculture from 1939 to 1941. He served in the US Army fro 1941 to 1946 with the 11th Airborne Division as its Division Veterinarian where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in connection with military operations in Leyte. He was discharged on February 1, 1946 as a major in the 12th Air Force. In 1946 he established a Veterinary Hospital in Maryville which he operated until his retirement in 1982.Dr. Hill has held the presidency of both the Eastern Veterinary Association and the Tennessee State Veterinary Association. He also was president of the Maryville Kiwanis Club, Maryville Shrine Club and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Hill is survived by his wife, Frances ( Hill ) Hill ; and a brother, Oliver W. Hill of West Brookfield MA.; two brothers, Jason and Nelson Hill ; and a sister, Edith Prothro predecease him. The funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Darris Doyal and Dr. Robert Wilcox officiating. The family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Dandridge for the interment. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 804 Montvale Station Rd. Maryville TN . 37803, or to the Humane Society of Blount County, or the Blount County Shrine Club, P.O. Box 4158 Maryville TN 37802. His wife Frances , is a member of the Garst Sunday School Class at Maryville First United Methodist Church, and her class will be honorary pallbearers.
