April 24, 1917 - July 03, 2008 Annie Lee Wakefield Owenby, 91, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, July 03, 2008 in a local hospital. She was a member of South Cleveland Church of God. She was a loving and special wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all. Mrs. Owenby was the daughter of the late Charles Wakefield and Mae Chambers Wakefield and was also preceded in death by her husband, Dillard Stewart Owenby; son,, Dillard Stewart “Jr.” Owenby; sons-in-law, Leon Phillips and Corky Bettis; daughter-in-law, Karen Owenby; siblings: Kate Owenby, Ruth Moore, Elizabeth Roberts, Charles Wakefield, Ralph Wakefield and Fred Wakefield. She is survived by her children: James Ray Owenby, Flossie Bettis, Dewey “Duke” Owenby and wife, Joan Owenby, Ina Sue Anderson and husband, Carroll Anderson, Judy Phillips and Vickie Ogle and husband, Cloy Ogle; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Luther Wakefield and Claude Wakefield both of Tellico Plains. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Isaac Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Mitchell Anderson, Jimmy Bettis, Chris Owenby, Adam Owenby, Allan Owenby and Corey Bettis serving as pallbearers.
