SMSgt Jackie G. 'Buck' Shehan, USAF Ret'd, age 69, of Maryville, formerly of Greeneville, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Blount Memorial Hospital after an arduous battle with emphysema. He was born September 20, 1935 in Greeneville, TN, the son of Elza and Ruby Shehan.
Sergeant Shehan proudly served his country for 40 years; first in the US Air Force, and then in the TN Air National Guard. He enjoyed many sports, and he spent many happy years bowling and coaching softball. He loved cars and could always be counted on to identify vintage models. He was one of the original members of Volunteer State Auto Club. His first love, however, remained his family and friends.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 34 years, Virginia Bowman Massey Shehan and devoted children, Vickie Massey Wade and husband Dalton of Greeneville, Rae Massey and wife Karen of Newport, Gina Massey Patty and husband Billy of Townsend and Jacki Shehan Clark and husband Joel of Maryville. He is also survived by sisters, June Southerland and Carolyn Carlton of Greeneville and Joann Jones of Knoxville; grandchildren, Lori Waddle and husband Lynn of Chuckey, Cari Marshall and husband John of Greeneville, Shanan Massey of Newport, Beau Massey of Knoxville, and Vanessa Wade of Greeneville; great-grandchildren, Jarrod and Jacob Waddle, Sydney and Isaac Marshall, and Johnathon Massey; nieces, Bobbi Carlton Franklin and Dana Jones Wilson; nephews, Jackie Kevin and Jeff Southerland; uncle and aunt, Gordon Jones 'Doeye' and Margaret Lowe; and numerous other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Doyle Lawing and many precious loved ones.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005 from the chapel of Rose Hill Funeral Home in Greeneville, TN with Rev. Craig Ward, Elder M.C. Rollins, and Chaplain Joe Colquitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Funeral Home, Greeneville, TN. Sergeant Shehan will be interred with full military honors provided by the Honor Guard from Robbins Air Force Base at Oak Grove Cemetery following Sunday's service.
Active pallbearers will be Joel Clark, Mickey Franklin, Gary Lowe, Billy Patty, Jeff Southerland, and Dalton Wade. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Bowman, Terry Hensley, Jackie Southerland, Randy Bowman, Jimmy Lowe, Lynn Ricker, Gordon Lowe, Sherry Greear, Ralph Gouge, Jarrod Waddle, and Gus Schettler.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund (Newport), the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, or to the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.
