Virginia Bowman Massey Shehan, 77, of Maryville, formerly of Greeneville, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was loved by many and never met a stranger. She was well known for helping people in need with a place to stay or a meal to eat. She was an avid sports fan. She was a bowler in league play, played basketball at Cedar Creek High School, played softball, and spent many years at Eagleton Ball Field following her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sports.
She loved her family very much. She was a Christian and looked forward to going home to be with her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Billy E. Massey and Jackie Buck Shehan, parents Lacy and Kate Ware Bowman, brothers and sisters-in-law Cecil and Grace Bowman, Kenneth Bowman, Dollie Marie Bowman, and Estel Hensley.
She is survived by her children Vickie Massey (Dalton) Wade, Rae and Karen Massey, Gina Massey (Billy) Patty, Jacki Shehan (Joel) Clark; grandchildren Lori (Wade) and Lynn Waddle, Cari (Wade) and John Marshall, Shanan (Massey) and Chad Holt, Beau and Elise Massey, Vanessa (Wade) Lewandowski; great-grandchildren Jarrod Waddle, Jacob Waddle, Sydney Marshall, Jonathon Massey Holt, Isaac Marshall, Maddox Holt, Kinslee Lewandowski, and Easton Massey.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2011, at Madison Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hodges officiating. The family received friends prior to the services at the church.
Family and friends will meet at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Greeneville First Church of God on West Main Street, (Hwy. 321), Greeneville, to receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Faye Lynn Ricker officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
