Creed Black, 80, of Arlington, Washington, died January 1, 2003, at his home.
Born on Cosby, he was preceded in death by his parents, W. J. "Willie" and Arline Caton Black, of Cosby; brothers, Abe Black, of California, and Hubert Black, of Newport; sister, Lucy Owenby, of Cosby; daughter, Sharon Black Reuwsaat; and grandson, Derek Reuwsaat, of Washington.
He was raised on Cosby and attended Cosby High School. He was a veteran or World War II having fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, he moved to Washington State after a short time harvesting potatoes in Idaho as a member of the government-sponsored CCC.
During his lifetime, he worked in the forests as a lumberjack and also built homes and bridges as a master carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Green Black; son, Gary Black; sister, Reba Ownby, of New Market; granddaughter, Deana Reuwsaat Thompson and her husband, Leroy; grandson, Doug Reuwsaat and his wife, Tracy; great grandchildren: Cody and Forrest Thompson; Emmarae and Lucas Reuwsaat; son-in-law, Butch Reuwsaat; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was Monday at Weller Funeral Home, Arlington.
