William J. "Bill" McBrayer, Maryville native and co-founder of Realty Mart, passed away on August 19, 2013, at the age of 81. Mr. McBrayer devoted his life to his family and community. A graduate of Everett High School, he attended Maryville College before serving on active duty in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he resumed his studies at the University of Tennessee, receiving his degree in 1960, the first in his family to do so. Mr. McBrayer was a realtor for nearly forty years and a well-known broker and property manager before co-founding Realty Mart. He served his profession for several years as an officer and director of the Blount County Realtors Association. He enjoyed and supported various sports, fundraising for groups such as the Maryville High Athletic Boosters Club and the Blount County branch of the UT Boost-Her Club. He also served on the Maryville Little League Board of Directors. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Maryville. More than anything, Mr. McBrayer was proudest of his three sons. He inspired their pursuits and reveled in their accomplishments. Mr. McBrayer was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Mable Russell McBrayer; brothers, Bob McBrayer and Luke McBrayer; sisters, Charlene Clingan and Judy Sparks; granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace McBrayer. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bess Patty McBrayer; sons and daughters-in-law, W. Neal & Kelly McBrayer of Brentwood, TN, J. Brett & Laura McBrayer of Knoxville, TN, and Steve & Dara McBrayer of Bristol, TN; six grandchildren, Haley and Cole McBrayer, and Rebekah, James, John and Luke McBrayer; sister, Juanita Headrick; brothers, Ken McBrayer and Keith McBrayer. Family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Smith Trinity Chapel with a memorial service to follow, Mr. Aaron Dogotch officiating. A private ceremony will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Grandview Cemetery.
