DOSSETT, GRACE BIRD - age 87, of Asbury Center of Maryville, formerly of Fountain City, passed away Wed. evening at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by, her parents, Rev. and Mrs. J. T. Bird ; sister Ruth B. Francisco, and husband of 46 years, W. Oaks Dossett. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Maryville, and was a long time active member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. She graduated from Knoxville Central High School, Tennessee Wesleyan College and Berea College. She had been a school teacher for 39 years, and was teaching in the Knoxville City Schools when she retired in 1972. Survived by: brothers and sisters in law, Merrill and Georgia Bird , Walland, and Frank and Martha Bird of Walland; niece, Betty Moody, Knoxville; nieces and husbands, Marilyn and Stewart Hammond of Rockford, Julia and Robert Cooper of Oak Ridge, Patsy and Jack Pelfrey, Kingston; nephew and wife, Jim and Becky Bird , Knoxville; great nieces, Tabatha Hammond, Rockford,Molly and Megan Bird Knoxville, Kara Pelfrey of Kingston; great nephew, Russell Hammond, Knoxville. Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday Gentry-Griffey Chapel, Rev. Robert A. Hayes officiating. Interment Lynnhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Maryville or Fountain City United Methodist Church Knoxville or to the Cole Foundation for Parkinson's Disease Research c/o Professional Office Bldg #1 Suite 102 1928 Alcoa Hwy. Knoxville, Tenn. 37920. The familywill receive friends 10 a.m. Sat. until 11 a.m. prior to service at Gentry-Griffey Chapel.
