SHIELDS, Stanley B. "Skeeter", age 85 of Maryville, passed away Monday, May 6, 2002, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a graduate of Maryville High School, attended Maryville College and graduated from U. T. Mr. Shields served as Mayor of Maryville for 34 years, he was a member of Maryville First United Methodist Church where he taught the Shields Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Maryville Rotary Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Shields; parents, James Frederick and Frankie E. Hatcher Shields; and sister, Gladys Shields Ogle.
Survivors include: daughter, Karen Lee Shields of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Martha P. Shields of Maryville; granddaughter and husband, Whitney and Lynn Cox; granddaughter, Stephanie Shields; grandson, Steve Shields, Jr.; great grandchild, Madison Cox; 3 nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Maryville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Darris Doyal and Rev. Sterling Turner officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church.
Mr. Shields was cremated and the family asks that FLOWERS BE OMITTED, and that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN 37803; to the Maryville City Schools Foundation, 833 Lawrence Avenue, Maryville, TN 37803 or the East Tennessee Childrens Hospital, 2018 Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37916.
