MAYES, OPAL WELCH - age 90, passed away on July 17, 2010 and is now with her God and her husband, Clyde L. Mayes, who died last month on June 16. Today, the couple married for 66 years, are walking the streets of gold together, just as they had planned. They were devoted to each other and will enjoy a pain-free journey together for eternity, which they so richly deserve. We absolutely know that Clyde had been waiting for Opal and greeted her with a huge smile (and a joke) when she arrived on Saturday night. Opal was an Eastern Star member for over 50 years. Also predeceased are her parents, Harve and Josie Welch, and brother Elmer Welch. Opal is survived by son Gene and very special daughter-in-law and caregiver, Cloelia, who has taken care of both Clyde and Opal for many years. She is considered their daughter in every way and we will forever be grateful to her; daughter Kay and husband Gale Perry; grandchildren Kelli (Mike) White, Russ (Aleta) Perry, and Rob Perry. She was great-grandmother to Jared and Katie White, Casey and Colby Perry, and Gary Dees. She also leaves her beloved sisters: Ruby (Paul) Letsinger, Pearl (Jim) Sentell, and Jewell (Maurice) Davis; several nieces and nephews. A special thanks and appreciation to Connie Russell and Connie Radford for all their caring help with Opal in the past month. Visitation will be Monday, July 19, at Weaver Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm with the service to follow at 8:00 pm with Pastor David Cardwell officiating. Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery on Tuesday, July 20, at 12:45 pm for a 1:00 pm interment. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Elm Street Baptist Church, 721 Elm Street, Knoxville, Tennessee 37921, where they were devoted members. P. S. A note to Opie and Pap from your family: We will forever love and miss you both-Enjoy your new life and sleep well. Condolences may be offered at www.weaverfuneralhome.com.
