Baker, 63, of Roanoke, Va., died on Saturday, April 6, 2013, after an extended illness. Jeannie was a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She was very compassionate and empathetic to all those with which she came into contact. She was preceded in death by her father, Burl Whitaker of Louisville. Surviving are her husband David; and two children, Nicholas and Samantha; mother, Ruth Whitaker; two sisters, Linda Cardwell and Susan Jones; brother-in-law, Alan Jones; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. No services are planned at this time, however, a celebration of life will be held in Tennessee at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the American Heart Association of Western Virginia, 3140 Chaparral Drive Building C, Suite 106, Roanoke, VA 24018; the American Diabetes Association of Central Virginia, 4335 Cox Road, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060, or Feeding America of Southwest Virginia, 1025 Electric Road, Salem, Virginia 24153.
