Rick was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. He retired from Bechtel Corporation with 30 years of service. Rick was an active member of the Smoky Mountain Base of the U.S. Submarine Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Katherine M. Hayes; daughter, Karen E. Shelton (Kevin); son, Patrick A. Hayes (Angela); grandchildren, Thomas W. Shelton, Katherine E. Hayes, James N. Shelton and Erin N. Hayes; brothers, Stephen Hayes, Dennis M. Hayes, John A. Hayes; sisters, Sister Linda Hayes and Christine Schulenburg; several niece and nephews; friend, Bob Ricker.
