Another biker dies in motorcycle-truck crash
The Blount County Sheriff’s Office is investigating another motorcycle-truck collision that left a 52-year-old Maryville man dead early Thursday evening.
It was the second death in Blount County in as many days involving a motorcycle and a truck.
Terry D. Poplin, Patrick Avenue, Maryville, was pronounced dead at Blount Memorial Hospital at about 5:45 p.m. following the two-vehicle crash, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Kathy McMillian, a 50-year-old passenger on Poplin’s motorcycle, also of Patrick Avenue, was transported to UT Medical Center where she was being treated for injuries. Her condition was not available Thursday night.
According to a Sheriff’s Office statement, Poplin and McMillian were traveling west on Wildwood Road at around 4:45 p.m. when they struck a 1996 Dodge flatbed truck driven by Douglas Steven Huskey, 31, Branch Road, Walland.
Huskey was traveling east on Wildwood Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Mitchell Avenue. He turned directly into Poplin’s path, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Huskey was wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the crash. He was cited with failure to yield and no proof of insurance.
Poplin and McMillian were both wearing Department of Safety-approved helmets.
The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
On Wednesday morning, a Christiana man was killed on “The Dragon” when his motorcycle rounded a curve and collided with an oncoming flatbed tractor-trailer.
