HARRISON, SELMA LARUE OWEN - of Nashville, TN passed away May 16, 2011. She was born in Parrottsville, TN on May 9, 1914 to the late Hugh Finley LaRue and Mary Willie Broyles LaRue. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Louis Robert Owen and Lewis Milligan Harrison; siblings: Hugh Finley LaRue, Jr., Eleanor LaRue Collins, Harriette LaRue Nease, Arthur Albert LaRue, Ralph Myers LaRue, and Virginia LaRue Burnette. She is survived by her sons: Louis Robert Owen, Jr. (Robin), William Sneed Owen; stepson: Lewis M. Harrison, Jr.; grandchildren: Robyn Owen Haskins (Shon), Abigail Owen Maliza (Johanes), Haley Kirksey Owen; step grandchild: Lewis M Harrison, III (Mike/Drew) (Ronda); great-grandchildren: Victoria Owen Haskins, Crystal Renee Haskins, Walker Thomas Owen Haskins; and step great-grandchildren Madeline and Jasper Eli. Selma was raised in Cedar Creek, TN. Upon graduation from high school, she attended business school in Knoxville. While there, she met and married Louis Owen (1914-1979). While raising two sons, she worked thirty three years and retired from Bell South Telephone Company. She was active in the Riverside Garden Club, bridge clubs and City Road Methodist Church. After the death of her first husband, she married Lewis M. Harrison (1988-2006). Following her retirement, she regularly volunteered for the Red Cross, The Veterans Hospital, Meals on Wheels and her new church, Glendale Methodist. She received numerous citations from the Red Cross, the Department of Veterans Affairs and others. A funeral service will be held to celebrate her life on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation: the family will gather to meet with friends from 4 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glendale United Methodist Church, the American Red Cross or the charity of your choice.
