U.S. Veteran Glenn C. Wade, age 88, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013, after a long life filled with rich experiences and many achievements. He is remembered with love and respect by those whose lives he touched as an athlete, coach, educator, artist, and friend. He was born in Clinton, TN, and excelled as an athlete and player/coach in the early years of World War before beginning his service as a Marine in the South Pacific. His college career was marked by athletic achievement, leading to a career in coaching, which was crowned by two Georgia State Football Championships in 1954 and 1955 with his Rossville High School team. Glenn was inducted into the Rossville Sports Hall of Fame and the Carson-Newman sports hall of fame. Following a successful coaching career, Glenn worked as a sales representative for text book publishers, while remaining active in youth sports, football officiating, and tennis. Late in life, Glenn cultivated his artistic talent and made friends in ballroom dancing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy S. Wade. He is survived by his children, Linda Wade, Richard Wade, Robert Wade, and Yvonne Endsley and grandchildren, Paris Wade, Alex Wade, Corey Endsley, and Monica Endsley. A memorial gathering will be held from 12:00 PM until 2:30 PM Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Alcoa First United Methodist Church, 617 Gilbert St., Alcoa, TN 37701. Bring your memories and stories to share and food if you like. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in honor of Glenn Wade to Carson-Newman Athletic Scholarships at: Carson-Newman University, Eagle Club, Campus Box 72017, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
