Evelyn Garwood Montsinger Brownlee, 74, of Knoxville, passed away from cancer on Monday, August 16, at NHC Health Care, Ft. Sanders.
Mrs. Brownlee was born in HaddonŢeld, New Jersey, on June 12, 1925. Evelyn attended Tusculum College, Greeneville, where she met and later married Dr. Vernon W. Montsinger Jr., D.M.D., of Newport.
Evelyn, known as “Eve” to many of her friends in southern New Jersey and East Tennessee, worked in various positions including banking, medical receptionist and agent for several travel agencies.
She was active in community clubs and the church.
Her love of people, especially children, was evident by all who met her.
She was later married to James Brownlee, who is deceased.
Her mother, Elna E. Parker, was from a prominent family in the Gibbsboro, New Jersey, area and was a concert pianist and music teacher. Her father, William Newton Garwood, was from the farming area now called Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and ran several businesses. Her brother, W.N. “Bud” Garwood Jr. was a World War II veteran. All are deceased.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Mark and Abby Montsinger of Chicago, Illinois, Larry and Catherine Montsinger of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Vince and Angie Montsinger of Atlanta, Georgia; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Mortuary, Mann Heritage Chapel.
The family will receive friends 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Mortuary, Mann Heritage Chapel.
