Mr. Bruce Byrd, Jr., age 76, of Newport, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at his home. He was retired from Bush Construction Company. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Ruth Byrd, brother Leon Byrd, and brother-in-law Doyle Yates. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Jennie Lou Finchum Byrd of the home; son and daughter-in-law William 'Bill' and Freda Byrd of Newport; daughters and sons-in-law Anne and David McMahan of Cosby and Kathie and Craig Finchum of Newport; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law Crystal and Patrick Clevenger of Newport; Sumer and Willie Brown of Morristown; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Josh and Courtney McMahan of Little Rock, Arkansas; granddaughters Madison Hall and Megan Finchum and grandson Morgan Hall, all of Newport; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Euvena Suggs and Louna Yates, both of Newport; and one sister-in-law Kathleen Whitt of Newport. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2011, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Frank Bell and Pastor L. D. Golmon officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Union Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. interment. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home prior to the services.
