He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bruce and Ruth James Byrd. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Charlene Byrd, of Morristown; son, Johnny Byrd, of Newport; daughter, Patricia Byrd, of Cosby; step-children: Alvin "Buckwheat" Berryhill, of Cosby; Vanessa Berryhill and Polly Teague, both of Morristown, and Jamie Berryhill, of Newport; grandchildren: Jessica Fisher and Brandy Byrd; step-grandchildren: Selina Cruz-Trujillo and Tyler Teague; sister and brother-in-law, Louna "Pee Wee" and Doyle Yates, of Newport; brother and sister-in-law, William "Junior" and Jenny Lou Byrd, of Newport. Additional survivors include his aunt, Bessie Wilson, of Morristown; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Wilma Graves. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Cleo Williamson, Rev. Joe Bible, and Dr. Frank Bell officiating.
