(September 30, 1923 - April 5, 2011) U.S. Veteran Mermel “Tiny” Valentine, age 87, of Newport, passed away, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Sevier County Health Care. He was a retired Police Officer of the Newport Police Department after 37 years of service and was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during WWII. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Valentine; mother and stepfather, Perry and Olie Evans; great grandson, Ben Williams; and brother, Gerald Valentine. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Valentine of Newport; son, Charles Edward Valentine of Florida; daughter, Kathy Williams of Newport; sister-in-law, Betsy and Bob Worley; grandchildren, Chad Williams and wife Buffy, and Cissy Woody and husband, Ock; great grandchildren, Emma and Leigha Woody, and Jack Williams; special friends, Jimmy Butler and Thelma Williams and family; several nieces, nephews and a host of other special friends and family. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, April 7, 2011 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wiley Woody, Maurice Shults and special friend Jimmy Butler officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am, Friday, April 8, 2011 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
